I seem to be posting a lot about TV programs at the moment (which is quite ironic seeing as I don’t have a TV and only watch catchup via the iPlayer).

However, I’ll be watching this program: “A Victorian Christmas” on the BBC on December 11th at 9pm on BBC2.

Brought to us by the same people who did Victorian Farm, the presenters will take us step by step through many of the Victorian Christmas traditions.

I’m looking forward to it already!

In the meantime, check out this BBC webpage: here where there are 25 different Victorian Christmas activities. Bliss!

I’ve just finished watching the last episode of Garrow’s Law on the BBC. What a fantastic program. Only four were made. Wish they had done more. I suppose though, what with the recession etc that we should be glad of any historical drama/docudrama. They are a lot more expensive to make than contemporary stuff.

I just love Lady Sarah Hill. What a beautiful actress plays her.

If you haven’t seen Garrow’s Law and are even midly interested in history, it’s well worth viewing.

Also, the Old Bailey website (familiar to many historical novelists like me) has transcripts of proceedings online:

What a ramshackle country we used to be! Though some of the cases have great relevance to today…

It was Halloween yesterday, and the old romantic that I am thought about this scene in BBC’s “Our Mutual Friend” adaptation of Charles Dickens’ classic novel.

Enough to give any girl a fright - a crazed man proposing marriage in a graveyard. Oh, and his name is Mr Headstone…
